Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series caused a storm amongst female readers when the first book was released. The series is comprised of four books in a fantasy setting containing vampires, werewolves, and other mythological creatures.

The story covers the later teen years of Isabella ‘Bella’ Swan, a US high schooler who moves to Washington and quickly falls in love with a vampire, who is 104 years old, and happens to be attending a high school, named Edward Cullen.

The book series is primarily told from Bella’s point of view, with the epilogue of Eclipse and the second part of Breaking Dawn being shown from the viewpoint of the werewolf, Jacob Black. There is also an unpublished book, Midnight Sun, which is a retelling of the first story, but from the character Edward’s point of view.

The book series was turned into a film franchise, which has been highly successful commercially, making enormous profits at the box office. The series has also been responsible for a resurgence in vampire stories, with large numbers of books attempting to copy Meyer’s success, by releasing their own vampire romance stories, although few have been able to match the success of the Twilight books.
